DARE

One of the first concerts I went to was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with my mom, my dad and my little sister. I was about nine.

Sometime in the midst of the show, my mom grabbed me by my twiggy arm and leaned in close to my freckled face.

“Do you smell that?” It was loud; she was yelling. “That’s marijuana. I know what it smells like. Don’t forget that.”

I’ve never smoked weed.

Something must’ve clicked.

I love it. I do hereby promise to totally rip that idea from your mom and use it with my daughter!!!

(just as soon as she learns how to talk, that is....)

Yep something would have clicked with me too, unfortunately my mom never said that. :)

when the loml and i lived in dallas years ago we went to a dylan concert at the coca cola starplex (a partially outdoor venue). i forget who the opening act was (oh, yeah. steve earle), but after he finished, they cleared off the stage, the stage went black and then a spotlight hit dylan sitting on a bar stool and he started to sing and play. before the first chord was through a heavy fog settled over the scene. great concert.
